Which resurfacing facial is right for you?

Smooth, supple, clear skin. That’s what we’re all working towards in our skin care journey. While there are many ways to achieve this, resurfacing is one of the most effective. Resurfacing is a loaded word, but let me break it down. Basically, it describes the process to remove dead, dry, dull skin, layer by layer, with precision. This starts the healing process within your body, which produces more collagen and elastin… revealing younger, tighter looking skin. My top three resurfacing techniques target different layers of the skin. I will walk you through each one so you can decide which one is right for you.

Dermaplaning is a resurfacing technique that targets the outermost layer of skin, the stratum comeum, and the peach fuzz that sits on top. With a sterile blade, I carefully scrape the skin, taking off the dead skin, surface dark spots, and peach fuzz. This makes the skin look smoother and brighter. While this process doesn’t start any production of collagen, it requires less downtime, and almost no redness. This procedure is a great way to reveal brighter skin without having to wait for your skin to heal.

Microneedling goes a little deeper into the skin, the epidermis and dermis if you can tolerate it, and is a little more effective at changing skin texture and appearance long term. Using a small hand held device, we apply numbing cream first, and then we apply the pen all over your skin, and multiple times if your skin tolerates it, it essentially aerates the skin, much like you would with your lawn. This process helps to wound the skin and exfoliate it, increasing the production of white blood cells that helps to produce collagen and elastin in the skin, making it soft, tight and even. This procedure does have some downtime, about 4-24 hours depending on your skin and how aggressive your treatment is. It is a great way to reveal fresh, new skin and continues to regenerate your skin long after your treatment.

Venus Viva Resurfacing procedure is a game charger for those that want minimal downtime and big time results. I finally got my hands on it so I can start making greater changes for my clients skin. Venus Viva is the deepest resurfacing treatment available and can drastically change your skin. Venus Viva is the top alternative to invasive laser resurfacing procedures and works by targeting the deepest layer of the skin, the dermis, and using tiny pins to deliver nanofractional radio frequency through the skin’s surface. By doing this, Venus Viva creates microscopic ‘wounds’ that the skin produces collagen to heal, and thus giving radiant, smooth skin. This procedure is great for people who are ready to do the work and want a drastic change without the invasive dangerous procedures.

With all of these procedures, it’s important that you maintain a routine in which you get professional resurfacing every 4-6 weeks. This not only maintains your results, but will continue to improve your skin’s texture, and tone over time. No matter what you think is right for your skin, taking the first step in this journey to care for your skin, means you’re on the right track and your skin will thank you, I promise!
