Why Your Skincare Routine Should Change with the Seasons

Sweater and scarf weather means more than just a wardrobe switch. Your skincare routine should adjust too!

Our skin really goes through it during the hot summer months. Not only does excessive sun exposure damage the top layer of our skin, which can create uneven pigmentation, but also our pores become much more congested due to the amount of sweat we produce from the heat. Then fall arrives and our skin rapidly gets dryer, creating a barrier of dead cells on the surface. Leaving the pores and skin below suffocated and dull. Now we’re not only dealing with clogged pores, sun damage, and tired skin, but the products we were using during the warmer months aren’t cutting it anymore.

So…what do we do?

First and foremost, you should always have a long-term skincare plan with your esthetician. Everyone’s skin is different, so communicating your skincare goals with your “esti” will allow for an easier transition from season to season, with little, to no, stress on you! Benefits of this communication includes getting the correct products and game-planning what is going to be best for your face, depending on the season. Some people may need heavier, more moisturizing products. While someone else may need something lighter with less oil. However, our absolute must-have answer to shed those unwanted layers of dead skin cells, is a service known as “dermaplaning”.

What is DERMAPLANING?!

Dermaplaning is a precisely executed service that involves an esthetician using a scalpel to scrape and exfoliate the top layer of your skin. This service can help with everything mentioned above (dryness, hyperpigmentation, clogs pores, etc.) with zero down time after the service has been completed. The dermaplaning process gives the skin its ability to regenerate cells more rapidly than what it could do on its own, or even with an at home facial scrub. It also helps your skin absorb serums and moisturizers more effectively by allowing the ingredients in those products to penetrate your skin. Think of it like this: you wouldn’t put a fresh coat of wax on a dirty, unwashed car, would you? With a fresh canvas of skin all active ingredients will start to work their magic faster, and will begin to show desired results in a shorter amount of time.

Sparknotes Version:
● Skincare routines need to adjust with the seasons
● Dermaplaning at any time of year will help keep your skin the fresh and bright
● Removing the dead layer of skin will greatly improve the efficacy of your products
● Don’t put high quality wax on a dirty car
